Beauty On The Go: The 5 to 10 minute Face

We live in a busy world and we all know the hassle and time it takes to look pretty, be it going to school or work. I as I started out just put on powder and balm and walked out the door. Today I’m going to share with you the things I’ve learned to becoming beautiful in just under 10 minutes.

This book is titled “The 5 Minute Face” It showcases getting your makeup done in under 5 minutes. From experience it took me 15 starting out then below 10 as I got into a routine. You might think it’s a bit hard to do considering eyeliner,  mascara or other products can take up a lot of time to perfect and admit it we become a bit OC when doing our makeup. I’ll share with you the tips from the book and my experience so here goes.

Here’s a time table for the steps in the 5 minute face book:

00:00-01:00 Smooth on foundation or tinted moisturizer

01:00-01:20 Pat concealer under your eyes with your ring finger

01:20-01:55 Spot conceal any visible imperfections

01:55-02:15 Powder to set the base

02:15-02:45 sweep on highlighter

02:45-03:05 Apply blush

03:05-04:05 Line your lash line

04:05-04:50 Brush on mascara

04:50-05:00 Apply lip color

See the steps? These were timed for a five minute face. Seems a bit too limiting right but it covers most of the basics of makeup in just a short amount of time. That’s why I said it can be done in under 10 minutes to give a little bit of a leeway for more precision.

Here’s a breakdown of the steps:

  • Foundation or Tinted Moisturizer: This step is the basic, there is no priming mentioned in this step but it can be done if you want to. Apply in dots and blend with a pore free sponge, brush or your fingers.
  • Concealer and Spot concealing: Sweep a lighter colored concealer under the eyes and blend with your ring finger or any tool you prefer. As for spot concealing, you can use a color that matches your foundation or the foundation you used as well. Use a small brush to paint over and concentrate the product. If your concealing pimples I would like to suggest getting a concealer with Pimple fighting ingredients such as Tea-tree oil or Salicylic Acid.
  • Powder: Use your regular powder be it pressed or loose. Use a Blush brush yes a blush brush to concentrate the powder in key areas only. These areas are the forehead, under the eyes, along the nose and chin. The reason for using a blush brush over a conventional powder brush is to give a more natural look. Being overly matte can make a face look a bit aged but if that’s what you prefer then go for it.
  • Highlight: Use a sparkling or shimmering highlight. dab or pat it on, under the brow bone, the inner corner of the eye and above the cheeks. Using this step can be a substitute for eyeshadow as it gives emphasis with minimal effort.
  • Blush: This is one of my favorite steps but it can be a bit a hit or miss depending on application and if in the case of over application go over it with a powder or run a brush or sponge that you used to apply your foundation with and it will fix up the color. Blush is supposed to give color to the face not make you look like a clown or like you’ve been slapped
  • Eyeliner and Mascara: These are the steps that need a little bit more time to get right but with a little bit of practice it will be smooth sailing for this step. Use a good pencil liner as this is the quickest to apply. Go for brown shades in the day as it’s softer and give more emphasis with being too obvious. You can use other liners if you have the time but a pencil will work faster
  • Lip Color: The quickest way is to use a tinted lip balm or gloss but a clean swipe of lipstick could work too.

These are the steps and I hope you’ll be able to use what I’ve typed down. How long does it take you to do your makeup and what tips can you share for a quick face?

Stay Beautiful 🙂
